Jana Griffiths

As a ceramic artist deeply inspired by nature, my work explores the intricate relationship between the natural world and cultural perceptions. I focus on the often-misunderstood common wild plants, which are frequently labelled as weeds. Through this lens, I highlight the challenges of traditional boundaries between nature and culture, revealing how they are inseparable and profoundly interconnected. My tactile porcelain vessels embody this connection, utilising colour gradients that reflect the essence of these plants.

Employing the nerikomi technique, I engage in a methodical and meditative process that allows me to contemplate humanity's historical superiority and exploitation of nature. Each piece serves as a dialogue about our relationship with the environment.

My journey into ceramics began at my local art centre, leading me to earn a BA(Hons) in Ceramics and Glass from UCA in 2023. I now share my passion as a tutor, guiding others in exploring the medium.

My work has been recognized in various exhibitions, including the British Ceramics Biennial Fresh, Wales Contemporary, and The Graduate Show at The Vanner Gallery. Through my art, I invite viewers to reflect on their perceptions and appreciate the beauty of our natural world, fostering a deeper understanding of our place within it.
